My work chronicles the struggles that exist between the universe and its inhabitants. I create my work using both conscious and subconscious methods. Consciously, I focus on classical perspective, narrative situations, and reinterpretations of other artists works. My focus on these structural ideals provides an architecture and landscape necessary to the survival of otherworldly manifestations. I rely upon my subconscious to create symbolic imagery and the strange organic beings that live in this world. Techniques that I use include gestural-automatic drawing, recalling dreams and trancelike hallucinatory experiences. I incorporate archetypal and iconographic imagery, causing my surreal environment to reflect its own religious and mythological motifs. In creating this universe, I tap all the chambers of my mind for the alchemical nectars which may alter reality. The result is a paradox humorous and horrific, structured and chaotic. One stares into this dimly lit space and is lost in its complexity and yet can not help but smile in the face of its absurdity.

The time consuming practices of the medium of printmaking, prolong the influence of my subconscious as a main component in the art I create. This is possible as each new state of the matrix allows for continual change, and the accidental can be anticipated, transformed and controlled. The methodical processes involved in printmaking add structure to my stream of consciousness. The replication of an image, and the reworking of an image, through its various proofs and states, allow for an immense control of its graphic possibilities. The delay of gratification in the staged development of a printed image and its matrix gives it a maturity that is only discovered over labored time.
My work is an excavation of internal architecture designed to construct a window through which objective reality melts into illusion. Through this portal, the viewer is free to explore my inner world and to make contact with a subjective example of our humanism. May the viewer be led into caverns of dreams and find his own well from which a new reality may be born.
